Waiting on Wednesday (91)

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and it is a way to show off the books you can't wait to be released!!

This week I chose:

"Pilgrims Don't Wear Pink"
by Stephanie Kate Strohm
Graphia/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Release Date: May 8, 2012

The following description is from goodreads.com:

Libby Kelting had always felt herself born out of time. No wonder the historical romance-reading, Jane Austen-adaptation-watching, all-around history nerd jumped at the chance to intern at Camden Harbor, Maine’s Oldest Living History Museum. But at Camden Harbor Libby’s just plain out of place, no matter how cute she looks in a corset. Her cat-loving coworker wants her dead, the too-smart-for-his-own-good local reporter keeps pushing her buttons, her gorgeous sailor may be more shipwreck than dreamboat — plus Camden Harbor’s haunted. Over the course of one unforgettable summer, Libby learns that boys, like ghosts, aren’t always what they seem.
This looks just too cute! I love that it's set in a historical village! The setting sounds so fun and I've already read great reviews!

"Winterling"
by Sarh Prineas
Harper Collins
Release Date: Jan 3, 2012

The following description is from goodreads.com:

"A girl named Fer who travels to a magical land where she has to discover who she truly is while putting right a terrible wrong. She’s helped by a tricksy puck-boy named Rook and a wild horse named Phouka."

"What a wonderful, imaginative alternate world Prineas has created for this book!" --Kristin Cashore, author of the New York Times bestsellers Graceling and Fire.

"Filled with wonder and with characters both devious and charming, Winterling is a mischievous delight!" --Ingrid Law, New York Times bestselling author of Scumble and the Newbery honor book Savvy.
There's not too much of a summary yet, but the wild horse sounds awesome and how can you say no to that cover!!?

This week I chose:

"A Witch in Winter"
by Ruth Warburton
Hodder Children's Books
Release Date: Jan 5, 2012

The following description is from goodreads.com:

Anna Winterson doesn't know she's a witch and would probably mock you for believing in magic, but after moving to the small town of Winter with her father, she learns more than she ever wanted to about power. When Anna meets Seth, she is smitten, but when she enchants him to love her, she unwittingly amplifies a deadly conflict between two witch clans and splits her own heart in two. She wants to love Seth, to let him love her – but if it is her magic that's controlling his passion, then she is as monstrous as the witch clan who are trying to use her amazing powers for their own gain.

Although a perfect fit for the paranormal romance genre, A WITCH IN WINTER avoids fangs, excessive body hair and submissive female leads, and tells the heart-wrenching story of a couple meant to be together, but being forced apart. Seth is utterly irresistible and Anna is an empowered, proactive young woman with unimaginable magic inside her. This is fast-paced, sensuous writing with believable incantations inspired by Warburton's research into witchcraft legend and old English.

The second paragraph really makes me want to read this book!! It sounds like the perfect YA paranormal for me!

The following description is from goodreads.com:

An eighteen-year-old queen in love with the enemy as their countries pass the point of no return...

Bound to a man she cannot love, Queen Alera of Hytanica must forget Narian, the young man who holds her heart. "The Queen of Kentucky"
by Alecia Whitaker
Poppy
Release Date: Jan 2, 2012

The following description is from goodreads.com:

Fourteen-year-old Kentucky girl Ricki Jo Winstead, who would preferred to be called Ericka, thank you very much, is eager to shed her farmer's daughter roots and become part of the popular crowd at her small town high school. She trades her Bible for Seventeen magazine, buys new "sophisticated" clothes and somehow manages to secure a tenuous spot at the cool kids table. She's on top of the world, even though her best friend and the boy next door Luke says he misses "plain old Ricki Jo."
Caught between being a country girl and wannabe country club girl, Ricki Jo begins to forget who she truly is: someone who doesn't care what people think and who wouldn't let a good-looking guy walk all over her. It takes a serious incident out on Luke's farm for Ricki Jo to realize that being a true friend is more important than being popular.

As soon as I saw this one on Juju's page last week, I knew I had to read it! It looks so cute!! Love the title and the cover, too:)

This week I chose:

"Kiss Crush Collide"
by Christina Meredith
Greenwillow Books
Release Date: Dec 27, 2011

The following description is from goodreads.com:

Leah has the life most high school girls would kill for—popularity, glowing grades, a rich, athletic boyfriend. So why does she feel like she can’t breathe? And why can’t she stop thinking about the boy from the country club? The one who isn’t her boyfriend, the one that her mother would never, ever approve of, the one that her perfect older sisters would never, ever look at twice. The one who is always looking back at her. Irresistible attraction, smoldering glances, the bad boy and the good girl—Kiss Crush Collide has everything that a steamy forbidden romance should, and then some.

With graceful and honest writing and an electric love story, this is a book about growing into your own skin. For fans of Perfect Chemistry, Sarah Dessen, and John Green.

"New Girl"
by Paige Harbison
Harlequin
Release Date: Jan 31, 2012

The following description is from goodreads.com:

WHY DID A SPOT OPEN UP AT MANDERLEY ACADEMY?

I hadn't wanted to go, but my parents were so excited…. So here I am, the new girl at Manderley, a true fish out of water. But mine's not the name on everyone's lips. Oh, no.

It's Becca Normandy they can't stop talking about. Perfect, beautiful Becca. She went missing at the end of last year, leaving a spot open at Manderley-the spot that I got. And everyone acts like it's my fault that infallible, beloved Becca is gone and has been replaced by not perfect, completely fallible, unknown Me.

Then, there's the name on my lips-Max Holloway. Becca's ex. The one boy I should avoid, but can't. Thing is, it seems like he wants me, too. But the memory of Becca is always between us. And as much I'm starting to like it at Manderley, I can't help but think she's out there, somewhere, watching me take her place.

Waiting to take it back.

"Illuminated"

by Erica Orloff

Speak

Release Date: Dec 8, 2011

The following description is from goodreads.com:

An epic romance full of mysteries that transcend time—fans of Romeo and Juliet and The Time Traveler’s Wife will rejoice!

Some loves are not made to last . . . Like Romeo and Juliet, Heloise
and Abelard were doomed from the start, and their romance was destined
to pass into history. Yet when sixteen-year-old Callie Martin discovers a
diary hidden within an antique book, their story—and hers—takes on
another life. For the diary leads Callie to the brilliant and handsome
August, who is just as mysterious as the secret the diary hides. Their
attraction is undeniable. As the two hunt down the truth behind the
diary—and that of Heloise and Abelard’s ancient romance—their romance
becomes all-consuming. But Callie knows it can’t last . . . love never
does. Will their love that burns as bright as a shooting star flame out,
or will these star-crossed lovers be able to defy history?

I will admit, what drew me in was the fabulous cover! But then when I saw Romeo and Juliet in the description, I knew I had to read this book!

"The Gathering Storm"

by Robin Bridges

Delacorte Books for Young Readers

Release Date: Jan 10, 2012

The following description is from goodreads.com:

St. Petersburg, Russia,
1888. As she attends a whirl of glittering balls, royal debutante
Katerina Alexandrovna, Duchess of Oldenburg, tries to hide a dark
secret: she can raise the dead. No one knows. Not her family. Not the
girls at her finishing school. Not the tsar or anyone in her
aristocratic circle. Katerina considers her talent a curse, not a gift.
But when she uses her special skill to protect a member of the Imperial
Family, she finds herself caught in a web of intrigue. An evil
presence is growing within Europe's royal bloodlines—and those aligned
with the darkness threaten to topple the tsar. Suddenly Katerina's
strength as a necromancer attracts attention from unwelcome sources . . .
including two young men—George Alexandrovich, the tsar's standoffish
middle son, who needs Katerina's help to safeguard Russia, even if he's
repelled by her secret, and the dashing Prince Danilo, heir to the
throne of Montenegro, to whom Katerina feels inexplicably drawn.

The time has come for Katerina to embrace her power, but which side will she choose—and to whom will she give her heart?

What a great concept! I hardly ever see books in this setting, and the fact that it is historical plus paranormal makes me really want to read it!
