This debut, the first novel in a trilogy, is achingly romantic, terrifying, and filled with blistering action.

When seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers - monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell - she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between archangels and the Fallen and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.

A mysterious boy named Will reveals she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the only one capable of wielding swords of angelfire to fight the reapers, and he is an immortal sworn to protect her in battle. Now that Ellie's powers have been awakened, a powerful reaper called Bastian has come forward to challenge her. He has employed a fierce assassin to eliminate her - an assassin who has already killed her once.

While balancing her dwindling social life and reaper-hunting duties, she and Will discover Bastian is searching for a dormant creature believed to be a true soul reaper. Bastian plans to use this weapon to ignite the End of Days and to destroy Ellie's soul, ending her rebirth cycle forever. Now, she must face an army of Bastian's most frightening reapers, prevent the soul reaper from consuming her soul, and uncover the secrets of her past lives - including truths that may be too frightening to remember.

ACTION PACKED! VIOLENTLY CREATIVE! HORRIFYING THRILLS!

Wow, this story was creatively written for it to be a Young Adult Read. Full of kick ass action with bloody horrifying kills without remorse. I’d have to say this book borders on the line of Young Adult and Adult rated horror.

Ellie has just turned 17 year old and is a senior in high school who starts out having nightmares and doesn’t know why she is having them until she meets Will out in the street where she kills her first grim reaper. Not the grim reaper with the black robe but dark creatures that represent the evilness of the grim reaper. With Will’s touch to the forehead Ellie starts to remember a past she didn’t know she had once lived. For the last 500 years Will has been Ellie’s guardian angel and has fought beside her no matter the cost because deep down he has always been in love with her.

Only one thing prevents them from being together and that is who she really is in the Angelic world, and the fact that the Arc Angel Michael has given the task to Will to always protect her and has forewarned him that no relationship can exist except guardian ship. Michael has given will his angelic sword in order for him to protect her and Ellie yields twin angelic swords that can only burn through and kill the evil reapers. Now Ellie is living in the human realm in mortal form to continue the fight of preventing the grim reaper of gaining her soul.

Will and Ellie go on one hell of an adventure fighting reapers and the author leaves the ending open so you will have to read the next novel in order to find out if the romance between Will and Ellie can fight all odds. The romance was mild – kisses, hugs, and talk of love - but is expected from a young adult read.
