Alfonso Serrano is a hunted man. For months he's managed to elude the Darkbloods, vengeful foes who won't rest until he's dead. But he still craves one dangerous temptation: Lily DeGraff, the sexy Guardian agent he'll risk anything to protect.

Lily is a wanted woman. Her talent for tracking Sweet—a rare blood type that's addictive to vampires—makes her a prime target for enemy capture. Her only hope is the stealthy vampire operative who stole into her bed…then left her in despair. Danger aside, Lily won't let Alfonso near her heart again—until an irresistible hunger threatens to draw them back together… and into an assassin's snare.

My Review -

Embrace by Blood is the second book in Laurie London's Sweetblood series that debuted earlier this year to rave reviews and once again does not disappoint readers.

The second book in the series starts off a year later and Alfonso Serrano is still a broken vampire in more ways then one. Not only physically trying to overcome an injury he thinks makes him weaker but also a broken heart that craves for forgiveness and love that he knows will never be within his reach.

This time the story revolves around Darkbloods trying to secure sweetblood in a plot to kidnap Agency trackers and forcing them to work for them in tracking sweetbloods. This of course leads to Alfonso getting involved to stop the plot and to protect the Agency's best tracker and the love of his life Lily.

The hot, sexual tension between Alfonso and Lily reaches a fever pitch at times as Alfonso denies himself the love that Lily offers. Being the tormented, heroic soul that he is he tries to keep Lily at a distance. Not only to protect her from the blood assassin that is hot on his trail, but also from a life he can't give her. What results is an exciting read full of mystery, intrigue and hot romance that makes your heart race and ache.

What makes this book another winner for Laurie London is her ability to create Alfonso into such a haunting character who is trying to redeem his soul even if it means in the end it might cost him everything in the process.

I loved Lily and her loving nature towards Alfonso. Her ability to look beyond the surface and to see the depth of Alfonso's compassion and devotion, even at times when he couldn't see it himself, made her a heroine that any reader could fall in love with and care.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading about tortured vampires and a sexy female vampire who strives to show that with acceptance and love anything is possible.
