Regan's service worker job never prepared her for her duties with the pack.. Traumatized vampyre victims, creatures who become children when hit by sunlight, and werewolves are just a few things she must learn to deal with. But she's not sure what to do when a vampyre wants to make her his mate, and she falls for her lycanthropic boss.

My Review:

Fantastic!! What a cool, imaginative new vampyre mythos and paranormal world Jade Twilight has created! The characters are believable and the scenarios plausible. Twilight has combined vampyres, zombies, Day Walkers (older vampyres), hell beasts (animals turned by vamps), latents, a vampyre hunter, werewolves, shape shifters and not one, not two but three romances to create this appealing paranormal romance.

Twilight packs a lot into this somewhat short novel; if it was a paperback, it would probably be about 225 pages. There is action and yet still time to develop relationships for each of the three friends.

There is Liam, a vampyre, who wants Brigit for more than just his Guardian - a female in a traditionally male role, also occult bookstore owner. However he will have to temporarily compete with Edward, another Guardian.

Also Mac, lycanthropic leader of the Council's Pack and Regan's boss. Regan is a former social worker who would love for Mac to be more than her boss. But Mac is going to have to fight Bastien, a Day Walker, for her.

Hunter, works for Brigit in the store, is college student, an abuse victim and smells "intoxicating" to Blayze and Julian, vampyres. She is somewhat intrigued with Blayze although she thinks his name sounds like something out of a romance novel. She is also enamoured with his friend Julian. She just also happens to be a latent vampyre who knew them both in a past life and taught them to share. Bastien is after Hunter to kill her because her past life self is a former mate which he killed.

When I saw the extended description said, "Content warning, vampyre ménage a trois, explicit sex, harsh language, violence" I thought it sounded like a good time to me. {grin} Unfortunately, I think this blurb was written by someone not used to reading paranormal romance or urban fantasy. With the exception of a quick threesome, the sex isn't really all that explicit - it is rather tame, the language is relatively bland, and the violence is run of the mill supernatural. This is a criticism of the blurb, not the book.

I rate this story a 2 of 4 on the sexual scale, however there is a quick threesome scene with anal penetration - very quick, very tame. But that doesn't mean the chemistry between the characters isn't smokin', it is. The focus just appears to be more on the chemistry than the sex itself.

There are only two things I'd change about this story to make it better ... make the sex scenes more erotic and lengthen the story so we get more relationship interplay.

I sincerely hope Jade Twilight considers making this into a series. It would make an awesome one. The world she has created is just too great for a single novel. I'd love to know what happened after the final scene in this story.

Fans of paranormal romance, urban fantasy and vampire genres should run, not walk, to pick up their copy of this story.
